Frequently Asked Questions

How can I know if my child is old enough and ready for piano lessons?

We’ve worked with many children and have found that by age five, children have developed the basic skills necessary to begin piano lessons. The ability to sit in one place for 30 minutes, good manual dexterity, and most importantly an expressed interest in learning to play the piano are all signs that a child is ready.

Where are the lessons held?

All lessons are held at Bemish Green Piano Studio, located at 69 Lowell Road, Windham, NH.

What are your hours?

We are open Monday through Thursday 10:00 am – 9:00 pm; Friday and Saturday
10:00 am – 5:00 pm.

How long are lessons? How often?

Lessons are offered weekly and students may choose the duration they prefer: 30 minutes,
45 minutes, or one hour. Additionally, we offer customized programs for those students interested
in longer lessons.

Is there a waiting room for parents?

Yes, there is a small waiting room for parents.

May I sit in on the lessons?

We think it is important for you to observe first-hand what your child is learning, so we encourage parents to attend one or more lessons with their child. In some cases, children become distracted by their parent’s presence in the room, so it is at the discretion of the parent as to whether it is appropriate for them to be there.

Who will the instructor be?

The instructor is Edward Bemish, professional pianist and owner of Bemish Green Piano Studio.

How much time should be spent on practicing?

Typically, we recommend that practice on a daily basis be the same duration as lesson time. For example, if your weekly lesson is 30 minutes, then you should plan to practice 30 minutes a day.

Are there any special environment requirements for the area where practice will happen?

Quality practice time requires concentration. The practice environment should be quiet, comfortable, and free from any distractions that may interfere with the student’s concentration, such as TV or sibling interaction. If your piano is in a high traffic area, then we recommend having it moved to a quieter room in your home, if possible.

How do I get pricing information?

Fees are determined by the duration and frequency of lessons, so the best way to get pricing information is to call us. We can then work with you to develop a program that best fits your budget and learning objectives.

Besides the cost of lessons, are there other costs such as sheet music?

Students are required to purchase music books and sheet music – usually less than $20.00 each. Additionally, students will need to purchase a metronome. We also recommend having your piano tuned at least once a year. We can provide you with recommendations for reputable companies that perform this service as well as guidance in the selection of books, sheet music and metronomes.

What piano should I buy and how much will it cost?

When deciding what type of piano to purchase, you should take into consideration budget allowances, where the piano will be located (a baby grand may not fit in a small room), and your objectives (if you are studying to be a musician, you may want a higher quality instrument). We offer consulting services, including going with clients to help fit the piano to their needs before they purchase.

Can a digital keyboard serve in place of an acoustic piano?

Yes, whichever you have available to you and are most comfortable with, although acoustic instruments are preferred.

Do you have recitals?

We do not have recitals at this time.

Do you have special summer programs?

We offer beginner lessons for new students. For advanced students, we have a fun and exciting summer program where students bring in a CD of their choice and learn to play their favorite song. Additionally, current students may opt to extend their lessons throughout the summer months.

How do I enroll my child or myself for lessons?
